Biscuits Worth Baking

Biscuits are a favorite breakfast food of many people, but often it can be difficult to find a homemade recipe of the same enjoyment as biscuit dough from the store. This recipe is a favorite of mine, because it is simple, healthier (due to the use of honey, a natural sugar), and in my opinion, tastes just as good as store-bought biscuits. Enjoy!

1 cup all-purpose flour or wheat flour

1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar

1/4 cup butter; softened

1/3 cup milk

1 tablespoon honey

Preheat oven to 450˚ and grease baking sheet.

In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and cream of tartar. Stir until ingredients are evenly distributed.

Add butter and stir until dough is even and slightly crumbly. * To soften butter, leave out a few hours before baking or microwave.

Stir in milk and honey just until moistened.

Knead dough on a floured surface until thouroghly combined (and can take on a circular shape like Play-Doh).

Roll out dough to 3/4 in. thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter. * No biscuit cutter? Simply roll into balls and smash down with the palm of your hand... Trust me. They'll still tast the same.

Place biscuits on greased baking sheet about a 1/2 in. apart or more. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until a golden brown.

Let biscuits cool and enjoy plain, with jelly, gravy and more!

* Remember to double, triple, or quadruple the recipe for more biscuits. My family always quadruples to feed six people, yielding about 20-21 biscuits.
